I was born and raised in South Africa where I graduated from college with a business degree. I emigrated to Toronto, Canada in March 1986 soon after my daughter was born. My second daughter was born in Toronto in 1989. I relocated to San Diego, CA. USA, which has been my home since 1995.
I have been a competitive athlete most of my life. From achieving a Black belt in Shotokan Karate, to running 20+ Marathons and numerous other distance races at a high level, I branched into Personal Training and coaching as a career for the past 30 years and have run my own Personal Training studio for 25 years. I truly loves what I do with a passion.
My younger daughter has been fighting stage 4 colon cancer for the past 7 years. Long story – short, fast forward 7 years, my daughter has endured 6 lung metastases resulting in 5 lung surgeries plus 1 series of radiation and ablation, 2 ovary metastases resulting in both ovaries being removed, numerous inoperable tumors in her pelvic area and 4 rounds of chemotherapy lasting 3 to 6 months each.
Not to mention the Opioid addiction resulting from long term use.
As a single mom and sole provider, I have had to move through this exceedingly difficult journey and figure out each new step alone, while keeping my personal training business going. As you can imagine, no easy feat, especially when one feels emotionally depleted, still always keeping my daughter the number one priority.
Being in the field of Health and Wellness, I was inspired to become a Certified Advanced Cancer Exercise Specialist as well as to create a guide to assist other parents going through this extremely challenging time.
